A big factor in cost is, of course, the site's complexity.
You won't be able to arrive at a solid cost estimate until
you determine, usually with the developer, the scope of the site.
Another factor is the class of developer you employ.
Different designers and site developers charge different fees.
They also approach your site differently.
Their rates and fees are influenced by factors such as skill-level,
overhead and market. Extremely simple sites can be established for as little as $50. And usually they look like $50 sites. But such a site might be all you need to accomplish your goals. (Just don't ask me to do it for you!) Other sites run into thousands of dollars. Those sites are often very complex in terms of content and graphic design. The most ambitious sites - some web site budgets well exceed $100,000 - utilize sophisticated graphics and additional "scripting" which enables the user to interact with the site material. Extensive marketing strategy and site advertisement are important components of many high end sites, and cost increases accordingly.
About my fees: I am an experienced designer. Fifteen years ago I founded my business, Adcon, to provide quality design for print media. I recently changed the name of the business to "ginnie.com." This name change reflects my interest in, and commitment to, the new internet technology. I enjoy working closely with my clients. I run a one person shop (it's just me!) so my overhead is low. With my solid network of professional contacts, I can produce a cost effective, top quality web site.
