It's hard to see one of your temporary fosters go, but knowing that he is going to such a wonderful place will put your heart at ease. You've put some sunshine back into Sam's life and made him feel like maybe people can be good sometimes too. Sounds like he's on the road to a happy, healthy, and finally loving forever home! Thanks for giving him smiles Ginnie! He sounds like a wonderful boy!

I think there were a few of us that hoped maybe things might have worked out for Sam and you two.. but like you said there are a couple of issues with him that need couseling that you would',nt be able to give him and he does deserve all the help he can get to achieve his forever home...
thanks for being a foster parent.. I'm almost sure I could'nt be a foster parent cause I would want to keep them all !!!!!!!!
some day you're Prince or Princess will come along and you guys will be able to give them a great forever home !!!!

Sam looks a lot like our Buddy, who we got 4 years ago from a rescuer in Jasper, GA. Buddy was 136 lbs when we got him , and his fear is tools in the garage and especially air tools. I have a pellet gun and target shoot, and that really set him off. We figured out that the air tools sound like the pellet gun... It's pretty sad to think what some these beautiful dogs go through.

Buddy is just fine now. He's about 165 lbs and 2nd banana to 126 lb Abigail. Our best to everyone helping with the Dane Train. I think we'll volunteer in the Atlanta area.

I still mourn the loss of my Blue Great Dane, Dali, and it has been over 2 years. Sammy is as beautiful as Dali and my heart just breaks that he was abused. My thanks to God and every Dog-Loving Human that helped Sammy.

I would think it very difficult to give Sam up. I hope his trip goes well and he finds his forever family soon. Keep us updated on Sam; I'm going to look into Dane Train here in Northern CA

It's a heart breaking story to think someone would abuse such a beautiful creature or any creature for that matter. Last week I wanted to take Sammy here to be with my other dane Max. I thought he was off to a new permanent home but he's still on the search for that permanent loving home. I wish him well and thanks all involved for being involved. The Dane Train sounds like a great idea. Keep up the good work. For me I think I would have driven from So. California to pick him up myself but I'm a do it yourself kinda guy.

Sam truly is going to a wonderful place!
We adopted our Marmaduke from Birch Haven last October and every aspect of our adoption experience was absolutely wonderful.
The Rescue is on a huge 145+ acre piece of land, just beautiful. Gwen is one of the best people I have ever met!
Sam is so lucky to be going to such an awesome place and will live such a happy life there until his forever home comes to take him home.
Thank you Ginnie for taking such wonderful care of Sam while he's been in your home and for posting this great site all about him!
What a beautiful boy...he deserves the best in life.

Sam is lucky and I just want to remind folks that there are HUNDREDS of Dane up for adoption through rescue. Just in our group, Great Dane Rescue of North Texas, we have over 30 lovely Danes waiting for adoption. While some do have signs mistreatment, like poor Sam, many are well adjusted, sweet happy dogs that just got bad luck in the responsible owner department! Visit www.danerescue.net to see our Danes or links to other Dane Rescue groups. Ginnie's site also has them. Summertime is especially hard on rescues...many people dump their dogs when they move or go on vacation and adoptions go waaayyy down.
Thanks!

Oh Ginnie your description of his fears bring back such vivid memories of when I adopted my Dane girl Blue from MAGDRL 2 yrs ago. She too was terrified of her collar and leash just like Sam. He is a gorgeous boy and deserves a wonderful loving forever home.
