1040-Dog Tax Return

Probably every American reading this right now knows that April 15 is the deadline for filing their 1040 tax form. It's part of our national collective consciousness. Each and every year, millions of Americans toil for days – often weeks – to complete their federal income tax forms on time.

In the weeks preceeding the April 15th deadline, most of us are so busy with our own income tax forms that we don't even notice the furtive activity of our pets. Well guess what, folks? They too have tax returns.

I know this sounds unbelievable, but it is true. We never see these specialized forms because our pets, especially our dogs, do not want their secrets revealed. Most dogs prefer to be viewed as "dependents." They don't want to divulge their net worth. And they certainly don't want us to review all the things they did during the past 12 months. As such, a dog will go to great lengths to hide his US Individual Canine Income Tax Return.

Last week I managed to obtain a copy of one of these elusive 1040-DOG forms. Oddly enough, I found it under the mattress in the summer doghouse, right next to a well-chewed volume of "The Hidden Life of Dogs."

A full-size, high resolution 1040-DOG form is now available printed on t-shirts and sweatshirts. If you like the idea of being stopped by strangers so they can read your chest (and who wouldn't?!) then you definitely need one of these shirts. Be the first on your block to own one. Or give a 1040-DOG shirt to your favorite accountant, vet or breeder. Visit us at www.DogWare.com.

Jabber Update: I am traveling right now, so it isn't possible to do a comprehensive story about Jabber's condition. He is still at the UGA vet hospital and – good news – he is showing some improvement. This week he began to put weight on his "bad" leg. He can walk without the assistance of a sling, although the sling is used to help him stand. Within the next 10 to 14 days we think we'll be able to bring Jabber home!!! His leg will still be immobilized by the fixator, so we will need to be very careful with him.
